A HAWAIIAN CULTURE LEARNING SERIES – ONLINE

Hawaiian Culture Series I
Series I is a beginning session into the study of the history of Hawaii, basic ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi – Hawaiian language, the values and practices of the culture. In this first series which is over the course of six(6) months, the student will be learning using online Skype or telephone with Kamaolipua for two (2) hours twice a month. Study materials will include the book Hawaii – A History by author Ruth Tabrah as well as the Hawaiian Dictionary by Mary Kawena Pukui and other notable resource materials.
By the end of Series I, the student will have gained a basic knowledge of the History of Hawaii, basic structure, pronunciation and vocabulary of the Hawaiian language. The student will learn basic oli-chants and will be creating hawaiian crafts. At the end of the six (6) months, the student will be asked to hoʻike – show and exhibit the knowledge learned during this time.

Hawaiian Culture Series II
Series II is a study of the lifestyle of the Hawaiian people of long ago as well as today. The teaching of basic ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi – language will continue as well as values and practices. By the end of Series II, the student will have a better understanding of how the people lived in old Hawaii and the changes in lifestyle in modern Hawaii. Creating native hawaiian crafts will continue in a more complex nature. At the end of the six (6) months, the student will again be asked to hoʻike – show and exhibit their knowledge learned. SERIES I MUST BE COMPLETED TO TAKE THIS ONLINE CLASS.

Hawaiian Culture Series III
Series III is a study of the myths and legends of Hawaii. In particular this session will focus on the story of Pele and Hiʻiaka. The student will continue with their learning of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, and hawaiian crafts, practices and values. A final hoʻike will be exhibited. SERIES I AND II MUST BE COMPLETE TO TAKE THIS ONLINE CLASS

THE SPIRIT OF ALOHA

The Spirit of Aloha and Hula– Saturday, January 14, 2017, 10:00am – 5:00pm

 Hula is the language of Aloha.  Join Kumu Kamaolipua from the Big Island of Hawaiʻi,  who will share her knowledge of the culture, values and traditions that surround hula and the spirit of aloha.  Her stories and wisdom passed down to her from her ancestors, elders and teachers will bring her participants to a more authentic meaning of aloha through the expression of Hula. Throughout the day you the  haumana-student will learn a hula filled with meaning and history. You will learn a oli or chant and the importance of oli in the hula practice.  You will craft a beautifu sacred lei that will be worn when you perform all that you have learned throughout the day.  Come join Kumu Kamaolipua and be immersed in the beauty of the islands.

 An Introduction to Hoʻoponopono – Sunday, January 15, 2017 10:00am – 5:00pm

 Of the many practices passed down to the Hawaiian people, one of the greatest gifts is the art of Hoʻoponopono.  A highly effective Hawaiian peacemaking process for families whose emotions have become so entangled that forgiveness is impossible.  In todays stress filled way of living, this practice offers needed resolution to families and extended families in a simple and acceptable way. As individuals, we often find ourselves in highly charged and emotional situations and we are left feeling confused and stuck.  Kamaolipua will introduce you to some of the concepts of this ancient practice.  She will ask you to go deep within and look at yourself from a new perspective. You will be challenged to explore the inner recesses of your spirit and unravel the mysteries that lie beneath.  To experience this process, you will be asked to remain open because every step is an awakening.  Come join Kumu Kamaolipua and take this journey of discovery.

KA HAKU HOʻOPONOPONO – ONLINE

Ka Haku Hoʻoponopono Series I

Ka Haku Hoʻoponopono Series I is an introduction on the basics of hoʻoponopono as taught to Kumu Kamaolipua by her various ʻohana – family and kumu – teachers. She will introduce you to the basic steps and the history of this practice. The Hawaiian Bowl of Light
