Hawaiian Culture
Online Learning Series

Hawaiian Culture Series I
$600

Series I is a beginning session into the study of the history of Hawaii, basic ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi – Hawaiian language, the values and practices of the culture. In this first series which is over the course of six(6) months, the student will be learning using online Zoom or telephone with Kamaolipua for two (2) hours twice a month. Study materials will include the book Hawaii – A History by author Ruth Tabrah as well as the Hawaiian Dictionary by Mary Kawena Pukui and other notable resource materials.

By the end of Series I, the student will have gained a basic knowledge of the History of Hawaii, basic structure, pronunciation and vocabulary of the Hawaiian language. The student will learn basic oli-chants and will be creating hawaiian crafts. At the end of the six (6) months, the student will be asked to hoʻike – show and exhibit the knowledge learned during this time.

Hawaiian Culture Series II

Series II is a study of the lifestyle of the Hawaiian people of long ago as well as today. The teaching of basic ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi – language will continue as well as values and practices. By the end of Series II, the student will have a better understanding of how the people lived in old Hawaii and the changes in lifestyle in modern Hawaii. Creating native hawaiian crafts will continue in a more complex nature. At the end of the six (6) months, the student will again be asked to hoʻike – show and exhibit their knowledge learned.
Prerequisite: Series I

Hawaiian Culture Series III

Series III is a study of the myths and legends of Hawaii. In particular this session will focus on the story of Pele and Hiʻiaka. The student will continue with their learning of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, and hawaiian crafts, practices and values. A final hoʻike will be exhibited.

Ka Haku Ho’oponopono
Online Learning Series

Ka Haku Hoʻoponopono Series I

Ka Haku Hoʻoponopono Series I is an introduction on the basics of hoʻoponopono as taught to Kumu Kamaolipua by her various ʻohana – family and kumu – teachers. She will introduce you to the basic steps and the history of this practice. By the end of this series you will have a basic understanding of the process and will begin the exploration into your own hoʻoponopono of self. You will also gain a basic knowledge of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi – hawaiian language and basic oli-chants and mele that is used in her practice. The student will be asked to hoʻike – exhibit and show the knowledge learned during time. This is an online class that takes place two (2) hours , two (2) days a month for six(6) months. Student can connect with Kumu via ZOOM or telephone.

Ka Haku Hoʻoponopono Series II

Session II continues with the basics of Hoʻoponopono but with a deeper understanding of the role of the Ka Haku. Exploration of other practices of hoʻoponopono will be looked at and the continuing work of hoʻoponopono with self will continue. Continuing to learn the language, values and oli will be part of this session. Student will be asked to hoʻike – exhibit and show their knowledge learned during this time. This is an online class that takes place two (2) hours , two (2) days a month for six(6) months. Student can connect with Kumu via ZOOM or telephone.

Ka Haku Hoʻoponopono Series III

Session III continues with a deeper understanding of Hoʻoponopono. The student will be asked to explore his/her role as a ka haku and their contribution. Exploration and learning of the culture to assist in this practice will be the focus. Continuing to learn the language, values and oli will be part of this session. Student will be asked to hoʻike – exhibit and show their knowledge learned during this time. This is an online class that takes place two (2) hours , two (2) days a month for six(6) months. Student can connect with Kumu via ZOOM or telephone.

The Hawaiian Bowl of Light

From the book Tale from the Night Rainbow by Koko Willis and Pali Jae Lee, their tells the story of a parable that is shared in many families of the Bowl of light that exists in all of us. Come to this workshop and hear the story and the stories of Kamaolipua’s ʻohana, During this time you will be crafting your own bowl of light that you can use in your spiritual practices and journey. Ka Huaka‘i — The Journey into Hawaiian Spirituality

Have you ever wondered what spiritual practices Native Hawaiians practiced? Experience through the sounds of native Hawaiian instruments a journey through dimensions. You will connect to your spirit guides or higher source and experience their wisdom through various methods in this deep and spiritual practice. Wise Women’s Circle Facilitation —

Today women’s circles provide a special place where women can relax, feel safe and be able to explore their individual uniqueness. Learn how to facilitate your own Wise Women’s Circle using the wisdom of our Hawaiian kupuna. In the process enjoy the journey of uncovering the beauty within.

 

Gods and Goddesses of Hawai‘i

If you are a malihini (visitor) or new to the islands, listen to the myths and stories of the Gods and Goddesses of Hawaii. The myths and legends have a direct impact in understanding the culture of the Hawaiian people. If you are a malihini (visitor) or new to the islands this workshop will introduce you to the Hawaiian foods served at local luau (party) today in Hawai‘i. Come observe how the foods are made, taste the delicious foods, and hear the stories of family traditions. A minimum of 4 participants needed for a workshop.
